ABOUT US.

Developing Communities.
Building Legacy.

The University of Alberta Properties Trust (UAPT) was established to redevelop lands identified by the University of Alberta as no longer essential to its academic mission of teaching and research. As stewards of these lands, UAPT is entrusted with transforming them into exceptional urban communities, vibrant places to live, work, and connect while maximizing the funds returned to the University of Alberta. Guided by its mission to create vibrant, sustainable communities, UAPT is committed to thoughtful planning, collaborative engagement; we lead complex projects that shape a stronger future for Edmonton.

The University of Alberta Properties Trust (UAPT) operates as an independent, organization from the University of Alberta.  UAPT is governed by an experienced, independent Board of Directors, which provides oversight, strategic guidance, and ensures transparency, accountability, and alignment with our mission to steward university lands responsibly while delivering long-term value.

Our work is rooted in partnership, informed by purpose, and driven by the possibilities that emerge when vision and expertise align. We bring together developers, communities, and industry leaders to deliver projects that balance profitability with sustainability, innovation with practicality, and bold ideas with long-term vision.

Independent. Accountable.

Purpose-Driven.

Our Story

UAPT was founded on a simple but ambitious idea: that the lands surrounding the University of Alberta held through a long-standing leasehold ownership model, could play a transformative role in shaping the future of the City of Edmonton.

Born from this purpose, University of Alberta Properties Trust has become a leader in undertaking bold, complex land developments. Our history is defined by embracing challenges, thinking differently, and working collaboratively to deliver projects that elevate the University’s reputation while supporting Edmonton’s evolving needs.

Through our leasehold approach, we ensure that the University retains long-term ownership of its lands while unlocking their potential through responsible and strategic development. From early planning initiatives to major developments now underway, our story is one of progress powered by people, partners, teams, and communities all working together to build spaces that matter. Every project contributes to a broader legacy: strengthening the University’s future, adding energy and value to surrounding neighbourhoods while unlocking potential in land that has long held promise.

Grounded in purpose and driven by possibility, we’re shaping spaces that leave a lasting legacy for the University of Alberta and the City of Edmonton.
